The Fastest Way: Grab Free Wipe Essence First

Before you wipe, make sure you have Wipe Essence in your inventory. If you have not yet redeemed the launch-week codes, you are leaving four free Wipe Essences on the table. Redeem these in this order:

CodeWipe EssenceAlso gives
shutdownadox+110 Ability Rerolls
sorry4bugs+110 All Rerolls
bugfixez+210 Ability Rerolls
anothercodeforfixes20 Ability + 10 Clan Rerolls + 1 Wipe Essence

That is 5 Wipe Essences total from free codes — enough to wipe your character five times if you keep changing your mind. Grab them before you start the wipe process so you do not waste time switching menus.

Step-by-Step: Wiping Your Character

  1. Launch Paradox and finish loading
Make sure you are past the spawn animation and can see your character in the world. Wiping from the lobby or character creation screen is not possible.
  2. Open the inventory menu
Click the bag icon on the side panel. On keyboard, you can also press the default inventory keybind shown in the Keyboard Keybinds Trello card.
  3. Find Wipe Essence in Consumables
Wipe Essence sits in the Consumables tab with Stat Resets and reroll items. If you see a counter of 0, you have not redeemed the free codes yet — close the menu and redeem them first.
  4. Click Use and confirm
A confirmation prompt appears warning you that your race and progression will reset. Click Confirm. This is the point of no return — if you click it by accident, your Potential resets to 0 on the new race.
  5. Respawn on the new race
You will be returned to the race-selection flow. Pick your new race (Soul Reaper, Hollow, or Quincy). A fresh clan and power roll happens automatically when you spawn into the new race's starting world.

What You Keep vs What You Lose

✓ Survives the wipe
  • • Unused Clan Rerolls in inventory
  • • Unused Ability Rerolls
  • • Unused Weapon Skin Rerolls
  • • Unused Shikai Rerolls
  • • Unused Stat Resets
  • • Remaining Wipe Essences
  • • All cosmetic accessories (Head, Torso, Neck, Face, Back, Arm, Waist)
  • • Weapon skins from Weapon Skin Rerolls
  • • Bankai Outfits you unlocked
  • • Earned titles and achievements
  • • Account-bound event items (Eternal Flame drops)
  • • Your friends list and guild membership
✗ Reset by the wipe
  • • Race (Soul Reaper → pick new)
  • • Your current clan roll
  • • Your current power roll (Shikai / Arrancar / Schrift)
  • • Potential back to 0
  • • Invested skill points (all 42-45 refunded as 0)
  • • Unlocked Shikai, Bankai, Vizard, Resurrection, Schrift
  • • Soul Society / Hueco Mundo / Wandenreich progression
  • • Mission completion count
  • • Boss kill history
  • • Hogyoku shards collected (for Resurrection)

The one-sentence rule: everything you earned that belongs to your account survives. Everything you earned that belongs to your current character is reset. Clan Rerolls are account-bound, so they persist. Your current clan roll is character-bound, so it is cleared.

When Should You Actually Wipe?

Wiping your Paradox character is usually a bad decision driven by buyer's remorse. Before you burn a Wipe Essence, confirm one of these is true:

  • You want to switch race. This is the only legitimate reason to wipe. You picked Soul Reaper and you realized you actually want to be a Hollow, or you want to try Quincy's Blut 15% damage reduction. Wipe Essence is the only way to switch races.
  • Your progression is below 100 Potential. If you wipe early, you only lose an hour or two of missions. Wiping at 300+ Potential means losing your unlocked Shikai and half a week of play — never worth it.
  • You have already tried reroll items first. If the problem is your clan or power, use Clan Reroll or Ability Reroll codes first. You do not need to wipe to reroll clan or power.

Things that are not reasons to wipe:

  • ❌ "I rolled a Common clan." Use a Clan Reroll, not a wipe.
  • ❌ "My power is bad." Use an Ability Reroll. Wiping does not guarantee a better power roll on the next race.
  • ❌ "I allocated skill points wrong." Use a Stat Reset. It is a separate item that refunds your skill points without touching race or progression.
  • ❌ "I want to start over with a cleaner run." You will keep the same account-bound rerolls, so "clean" is an illusion.

The Wipe Essence Trello card explicitly warns that wiping "should only be used if you are sure about switching races," and the game does not refund Wipe Essence if you change your mind after confirming.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I lose my rerolls when I wipe in Paradox?

No. Unused Clan Rerolls, Ability Rerolls, Weapon Skin Rerolls, Shikai Rerolls, and Stat Resets in your inventory persist through a wipe. Only your current character's race, clan, power, skill points, and progression are cleared.

How do I get Wipe Essence in Paradox?

The fastest way is to redeem the four launch-week codes that grant Wipe Essence: shutdownadox (+1), sorry4bugs (+1), bugfixez (+2), and anothercodeforfixes (+1). Total: 5 free Wipe Essences. Wipe Essence can also be purchased in the in-game shop.

Can I wipe without Wipe Essence?

No. Wipe Essence is the only way to reset your race and progression. If you only want to reallocate skill points, use a Stat Reset instead — it is a separate, cheaper item that does not touch your race or clan.

Do my cosmetics survive a wipe?

Yes. All account-bound cosmetics, weapon skins, accessories, Bankai outfits, and titles persist through a wipe. Only race-specific progression and your current clan/power slots are cleared.

How many times can I wipe my character?

As many times as you have Wipe Essence. Each wipe consumes exactly one Wipe Essence regardless of your current progression level. There is no daily or weekly limit.

Does wiping reset my guild membership?

No. Guild membership is account-bound, not character-bound. You stay in your guild after a wipe, but your contribution history may display as lower-rank since your new character starts fresh.

Should I wipe to try a better clan?

No. Wiping rerolls your race; your new race will roll a fresh clan, but the clan you were unhappy with will not affect your new roll's odds. Use a Clan Reroll instead — it's a dedicated item that rerolls your clan without touching anything else.
